Not sure where you read that $22.10 is a starting pay at the Iola plant. That's nearly $10 higher than starting pay for maintenance, close to if not *the* highest-paid hourly wage workers at the plant. It's also several dollars higher than the *max* pay for Leads, which the residents are not allowed to do because it requires them to access the Internet outside of what is legally allowed. Whatever, if any, positions starting out at that pay, they are not staffed by the residents. The wage is also set by KDOL, though that doesn't remove culpability from Russell Stover as they're aware of the circumstances under which the residents are working, it does mean that the company actually cannot pay them more without a new review by the DOL.

Russell Stovers pays the workers a legal minimum wage ..It's the prison robbing the girls .Russell Stovers has nothing to do with the arrangement at the prison or facility that overseas the contract between workers and the work release program . Russell Stovers provide a job and pay for services ... The same as any other company does for its employees.. The prison system found a way to exploit the workers . Before entering a work release program the inmate must sign over their financial rights to the facility or they will be sent back to prison . Russell Stovers does not control this process whatsoever .If anything , Russell Stovers may have signed a contract with the Dept of corrections allowing X amount of workers to get paid at X an hr for X amount of time . That's what they provide. They do pay a living wage (if shared living expenses- ex roomate) - each inmate would receive almost $2,000 a mo to live off of - based on the numbers above ... Don't blame Russell Stovers in this - blame the real crooks ! The state prison system .
